Full Blood Test for Dogs & Cats in Lahore: CBC, Liver, Kidney & Tick Fever
A full blood panel combines a CBC with liver tests (LFTs), kidney tests (RFTs), a blood parasite screen and blood glucose. Vets use it before anaesthesia, once a year for older pets, and for a pet that is unwell without an obvious cause. In Pakistan the built-in blood parasite screen matters: tick-borne infections are one of the most common reasons dogs fall ill.

What it costs at the lab
These are the lab's own prices. Most clinics in Pakistan don't run tests in-house — they send the sample to a lab like this one and add their own charges, so the figure your clinic quotes is rarely the lab's.
Includes: CBC, Liver tests (LFTs), Kidney tests (RFTs), Blood parasite, Blood glucose
In DHA Phase 1 and DHA Phase 2, the lab's team collects the sample at your home. Anywhere else, visit the lab at 170-G, Commercial Area, DHA Phase 1, Lahore, open 9:00 AM – 11:00 PM.
Why vets ask for a full blood test
- Before spaying, neutering, dental cleaning or any anaesthetic
- A yearly check for pets over about seven
- A pet that is off food, losing weight, drinking more, or just not right
- Before long-term medicines such as pain relief, which the liver and kidneys must handle
- Suspected tick fever — the panel looks for the parasites as well as their effects
What it measures
| Part | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| CBC | Anaemia, infection, inflammation and platelets |
| Liver tests (LFTs) | Liver cell damage and bile flow — usually ALT, ALKP, bilirubin and proteins |
| Kidney tests (RFTs) | How well the kidneys filter — urea (BUN) and creatinine |
| Blood parasite | Tick-borne parasites such as Babesia inside the blood cells |
| Blood glucose | Blood sugar — diabetes, or low sugar in a sick pet |
Reading the results — good and bad
| Result | What it can mean |
|---|---|
| Everything within range | A good baseline — keep the report, because next year's is compared against it |
| Raised ALT or ALKP | Liver stress or disease — or steroids, or normal growth in young pets. Often rechecked, or followed by an ultrasound. |
| Raised urea and creatinine | Dehydration or reduced kidney function — a urine test tells them apart |
| Parasites seen in the blood | Tick fever — treatable, and far better caught early |
| High glucose | Diabetes — or, in cats, stress from the trip |
| Low glucose | A small puppy that hasn't eaten, a severe infection, or rarely a tumour |
Before the test
- No food for 8–12 hours — a recent meal clouds the sample and raises glucose. Water is fine.
- Young puppies and kittens and diabetic pets: ask the vet before fasting.
- Bring previous reports; a trend tells the vet more than one reading.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a full blood test cost in Lahore?
VETix Animal Health Laboratories charges Rs 4,500 when booked through MatchVet (Rs 5,000 as a walk-in). If your clinic sends the sample to an outside lab, its price usually includes its own collection and handling charges on top — so ask which lab it uses, and compare like with like.
Is this the same as a 'complete blood test'?
Mostly. 'Complete blood test' is used loosely. A CBC alone checks blood cells only; this panel adds the liver, kidneys, blood parasites and glucose — which is usually what owners mean.
Does my pet need this before spaying or neutering?
Most vets recommend it, and it matters more for older pets and any pet with a health history. It confirms the liver and kidneys can handle the anaesthetic drugs and that platelets are normal.
Why does my older dog need blood tests every year?
Kidney and liver disease develop quietly. Catching a rising creatinine or ALT a year early gives far more treatment options than finding it once your pet is visibly sick.
Operation se pehle blood test kyun zaroori hai?
Anaesthesia ki dawaiyan liver aur kidney process karte hain. Blood test se pata chalta hai ke yeh organs theek kaam kar rahe hain aur platelets normal hain, taake operation mehfooz ho.
