Dog & Cat CBC Test in Lahore: What It Shows

A CBC counts your pet's red cells, white cells and platelets. It is the first blood test most vets order — for a pet with fever, weakness, pale gums, vomiting or suspected tick fever, and before surgery. It shows anaemia, infection, inflammation and low platelets, but not how the liver or kidneys are working; that needs a chemistry panel.

What it costs at the lab

These are the lab's own prices. Most clinics in Pakistan don't run tests in-house — they send the sample to a lab like this one and add their own charges, so the figure your clinic quotes is rarely the lab's.

Why vets ask for a CBC test

What it measures

What the CBC test measures
PartWhat it tells you
HB, RBCs, HCTRed cells — how well the blood carries oxygen; low means anaemia
MCV, MCH, MCHCThe size and colour of the red cells — clues to why a pet is anaemic
WBCsThe total white cell count — the immune system's response
Neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophilsThe white cell types — each points to a different kind of problem
Platelets (PLT)The cells that make blood clot

Reading the results — good and bad

CBC (complete blood count) results and what they can mean
ResultWhat it can mean
Everything within rangeNo sign of anaemia, infection or a platelet problem. A CBC doesn't check the liver or kidneys, so it can't clear those.
Low HB or HCTAnaemia — blood loss, blood parasites, heavy fleas, ticks or worms, or long-term illness
High HCTUsually dehydration
Low plateletsTick fever, bleeding or an immune problem — or, in cats, platelets clumping in the tube
High white cells or neutrophilsInfection, inflammation, stress, or steroid medicines
Low white cellsParvo or another severe infection — urgent in a young pet
High eosinophilsWorms, fleas or allergies
Every result is read against the reference range printed on the report — each lab sets its own, and dogs and cats differ. One value slightly outside the range is common; your vet reads the pattern together with how your pet actually is.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a CBC test cost in Lahore?

VETix Animal Health Laboratories charges Rs 1,050 when booked through MatchVet (Rs 1,500 as a walk-in). If your clinic sends the sample to an outside lab, its price usually includes its own collection and handling charges on top — so ask which lab it uses, and compare like with like.

Does a CBC detect tick fever?

It shows the signs — low platelets and anaemia are typical — but it does not confirm the parasite. A blood parasite test does; the Basic Health Check Panel includes one alongside the CBC.

Can a CBC detect cancer?

Not on its own. Some blood cancers show up in the white cells, but most cancers need imaging and a biopsy to confirm.

How often should my pet have a CBC?

Whenever the vet has a reason — illness, surgery, a new long-term medicine. Healthy adults usually need one only at an annual check, and pets over about seven benefit from one every year.

CBC test kya hota hai?

CBC blood ka basic test hai jo red cells, white cells aur platelets ginta hai. Is se anaemia (khoon ki kami), infection aur tick fever ke nishan pata chalte hain. Liver aur kidney ka haal is mein nahi aata — us ke liye chemistry panel hota hai.
