- Working diagnosis: suspected flea allergy dermatitis with a secondary fungal infection. It stays "suspected" because a skin scrape or culture can't be done on a call.
- Flea treatment first, before any bathing, and a thorough clean of bedding, rugs and everywhere the kitten spends time, so the fleas and fungal spores don't come back.
- A medicated shampoo once a week, left on for 10 minutes before rinsing.
- A topical treatment twice a day on the ears and tail for a month.
- A short oral course for the itching, inflammation and infection.
- A daily cat omega-3 supplement in food to support skin repair.
- An Elizabethan collar for at least 15 minutes after each application, because licking the product can be toxic.
- Gentle ear cleaning at home with a cat ear solution, never cotton buds inside the ear.
